Would like to BQ - need to shave 23 minutes off PR.
Long-Term Running Goals: Keep running.
When I started running my wish that turned into a goal was to qualify for Boston. Just so I could say "I qualified for Boston."
AFTER BQ, I think I will do some Tri events. For sure some Half Ironman events, and see where that takes me. Personal: Married to Kelly (with a 'Y')

| Went to the fitness center, circle of death again. I don't know
that I can go more than 6, 7 miles on that thing. 37 laps today.
Total time was 44:45.So, 7:28 average. I know there was a fast mile in
there, but I don't feel like adding all the times together so I'll just
not worry about it. There was this kid that was running and passed me when I was warming up.
He wasn't going really fast, 8:30 or so, just enough to pass me and
gain a little. Well as I started to speed up I gained on him fairly
fast, but when I pulled next to him, he bolted like he was in the
Olympics on the bell lap of a gold medal race. So I tried to maintain
speed, he relaxed 5 steps in front of me, and slowed to normal again,
then as I pulled up, there he goes again. So I decide to sit on his
shoulder and let him hold that faster pace and see how it goes. His
pace surges up and down for a lap or two, which is really annoying,
because I started off trying to pass on the inside since he was hugged
to the left of the lane, and so I was put on the inside which is a
little faster and he would crowd right down on me to hug the inside
more. Soooooo, I decide I would sit right on him and on the straight
away step up the speed to fast (for me) I think if I remember right
those three laps were at @ 1:10, 1:09, and 1:04 which 1:04 is 6:38 pace.
Well I kept the fast speed for a lap and put some ground between us and
a few other runners and he never came back up to me. Yeah. What I
really find interesting is how he just didn't want to be passed. I
don't know how long he would have allowed me to sit on his shoulder,
but I have found that I can keep really close to the same pace on that
track for 4-5 miles. Oh well, fun testing myself. :-)

| I guess I shouldn't count it as 5, I only timed 4. But as I was cooling down I felt like I should keep going on the nice slow pace, so I added another but had already stopped my watch. I'm sure looking forward to better weather. I just don't care for the sub freezing runs. What a baby.

| Fourteen miles for the fourteenth day of the month. Good fourteenth. The miles were slow. Ran with Kelly, Wendy, Deb, and Connie (food poison Connie). Just ran around the streets of Highland/Alpine. Was actually a nice for a run. I did a few run ahead and came back to the group. We were headed on the final point two five miles and I saw that I wouldn't get eleven miles for the day I decided to turn around and head out again. Ask Kelly to pick me up when she was done. Told her that I would go to this one street and run down it, and that is where I figured she would catch up with me. I thought I would add a mile maybe one and a half. But ended up with more than three. Those last three were a BIG struggle. I kept hitting what I call mini walls. I would find myself thinking of nothing except STOP and my body would obey. So then I would have to really tell myself to ignore the tired feeling and GO. I would go for awhile and then STOP, ugh! After the third time of this I started asking myself, self, why are you having a hard time with this? You have run this far before, you have run faster than this, you have run up hills steeper and longer than this, you have been way more tired than this, so why is it being so hard? I couldn't figure it out. Then it hit me, USUALLY I have a set place that I'm running to. Run down there and back, run around this track until you hit x mile, run that loop.......at this particular time I was running up and down this street, with no final spot/distance/time to hit. I was just running until Kelly got there to pick me up and I didn't know when that would be. Very weird little mind game. About three or four minutes later Kelly pulled up, I was at thirteen point nine four miles, so I decided that I would not quit until I got the next mile. Phew! Sorry for the long boaring write up! Hope everyone had a good Valentines Day! |
