When I started running my wish that turned into a goal was to qualify for Boston. Just so I could say "I qualified for Boston."

AFTER BQ, I think I will do some Tri events.  For sure some Half Ironman events, and see where that takes me.

Went to the fitness center, circle of death again.  I don't know that I can go more than 6, 7 miles on that thing.  37 laps today.   Total time was 44:45.So, 7:28 average.  I know there was a fast mile in there, but I don't feel like adding all the times together so I'll just not worry about it.

There was this kid that was running and passed me when I was warming up.  He wasn't going really fast, 8:30 or so, just enough to pass me and gain a little.  Well as I started to speed up I gained on him fairly fast, but when I pulled next to him, he bolted like he was in the Olympics on the bell lap of a gold medal race.  So I tried to maintain speed, he relaxed 5 steps in front of me, and slowed to normal again, then as I pulled up, there he goes again.  So I decide to sit on his shoulder and let him hold that faster pace and see how it goes.  His pace surges up and down for a lap or two,  which is really annoying, because I started off trying to pass on the inside since he was hugged to the left of the lane, and so I was put on the inside which is a little faster and he would crowd right down on me to hug the inside more.  Soooooo, I decide I would sit right on him and on the straight away step up the speed to fast (for me) I think if I remember right those three laps were at @ 1:10, 1:09, and 1:04 which 1:04 is 6:38 pace.  Well I kept the fast speed for a lap and put some ground between us and a few other runners and he never came back up to me.  Yeah.  What I really find interesting is how he just didn't want to be passed.  I don't know how long he would have allowed me to sit on his shoulder, but I have found that I can keep really close to the same pace on that track for 4-5 miles.  Oh well, fun testing myself.  :-)

That is an awesome story. It's the same with drivers. They don't want to go as fast as you, but HOLY CRAP if you try to pass them. It's some form of utah insult or something :) Great run and AMAZING pace! you da man!

From tarzan on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 13:17:02

Great job teaching that youngster a lesson!

From jona on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 13:17:31

Your absolutely correct. Drivers do that ALL the time!

From jona on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 13:18:40

Maurine, I'm happy to teach'm when I can. Unfortunately they run me into the ground more often than not.

From Teena on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 15:16:07

LOVE THE PIC DB!!

People are so stinkin' funny and so stinkin' competive (of course I don't fall into those categories).

6:38 pace is unbelievable fast!!

Nicely done DB!

From jona on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 15:45:02

Thanks TJ - No, your NOT competitive are you? Ha. I wonder why you keep going out to run on a FRACTURED Pelvis? Silly girl! I was glad to read you know what is going on. NOW, follow Dr T's orders.

6:38 is fast. I can't believe people run that fast (faster) for whole marathons. That isn't my top speed, but I can't imagine keeping that up for 26 miles. But I guess I should open my mind to the idea and work towards it eh?

From Teena on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 15:47:15

Yeppers!! YOU could totally do it. Seriously!

From jona on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 15:47:58

Now there is the funny coming out in you! Ha

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 16:12:50

Jon, way to show that "lane hogger" kid. Yep, just get some of Teena's competitive juice and you'll own those 6:38 for miles and miles. Nice track work!!!

From jona on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 16:19:05

Thanks Smooth, I think I better start getting my legs outside. The flat small round track is going to mess me up.

From Kelli on Wed, Feb 11, 2009 at 18:38:33

I did not read your whole post, sorry! i am in a big hurry! But, way to go on conquering the circle of death (can you come up with a name for the treadmill?) Great workout, I will come and read the rest later!

LOVE THE PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From TylerS on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 11:44:55

Good job on the 6:38 pace! I fear the day that you sit on my shoulder during a race! jk I would actually enjoy the company! So keep up the good work, get MARRIED already and come sit on my shoulder during a race! "did I say get MARRIED out loud"? sorry

From Marion on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 11:54:45

Well since Tyler brought it up... what's the deal man??? :)

From jona on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 12:34:52

Tyler, your way to fast for me to sit on your shoulder.

Tyler, Marion - Hummmmmm. I'm contemplating not saying a thing about that "M" word. But I will through out a crumb. That crumb would be the simple response of "Ok" and "I'm working on it!"

:-) :-) :-)

From tarzan on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 12:36:20

Wow - that's even more commitment than "I'm thinking about it."

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 12:48:58

I will just say YEAH!!!! You deserve it!

From jona on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 12:56:25

Oh I don't know how I missed your entry Britta - Thanks, I love it too!

Maurine - I've been "thinking" about it already. :-)

Kelli - I AGREE! YEAH! She is wonderful!

I'll keep you all posted. :-)

From Marion on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:35:55

You know Jon, at the party she said she REALLY REALLY likes you :) She thinks you're SUPER AWESOME ;) (how Jr high was that?)

From jona on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:49:43

Marion - I think its fair to say that (at least for me) its past "like". :-)

I'll pass her a note and confirm. How is that for Jr. High?

From Marion on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 16:13:53

I am so happy for you two! Now if it is going to be really Jr high, you have to tell me and then I tell her and I'll get back to you via note :) ...and just as far as I can tell, I think she's probably past the "like" phase too ;)

From tarzan on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 16:32:30

If we are going to be jr highish - I'm going off to sulk because no boy likes me...... :)

From Kelly with a Y on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 16:59:20

Howdy kiddos!! (Figured I'd keep with the Jr. High theme and crash your little blogging party! LOL) Just thought I'd jump in and tell you how WONDERFULLY AMAZING Jona is! In no particular order... He's a Speedy quick runner, great kisser, and sexy to boot!! Not too shabby....Jona.... ;)

From tarzan on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 17:01:05

From TylerS on Fri, Feb 13, 2009 at 15:47:32

Jon you can thank me for getting you into the HOT TOPIC'S! I am just glad that my phone has quit vibrating today! I hope that I didn't get you in any trouble, and if you want to meet at the flag pole we can! JK

From jona on Fri, Feb 13, 2009 at 16:03:47

Tyler - NO trouble! Was entertaining. Now if everyone will move to a different day, I can get off the "Hot Topics" list!!!!

I'll let everyone know when IT happens! :-)

From Kelli on Fri, Feb 13, 2009 at 19:21:54

Are you gonna change your blog title every day? It would be very entertaining. Okay, I am moving to another day....

From Marion on Sat, Feb 14, 2009 at 19:03:23

Hey- I was telling David about the kid who would not let you pass and he said, "That kid must not have liked getting Old Spiced!" I cracked up. David made up a running term. "Old Spiced" - when an "old" guy passes a youngster.

From Kelli on Sat, Feb 14, 2009 at 23:40:29

OLD SPICED, I LOVE IT!!!!!

From kellies on Mon, Feb 16, 2009 at 11:57:21

Wow!! See what I missed? I haven't gotten on the blog for a few days but I just logged on feel like I just got caught up on the latest and greatest reality series!! This is all fun stuff, the running story, the "M" word, Spying, hacking, Kelli and Marion being pregnant :), wow!! No really good job on the pace and good job on moving closer to the "M" word. Kelly is darling, aside from her great name, I hardly know her and already love her. Keep us all posted on any advances to this love story!! Parties are always a plus too, I'm There!!!
