Would like to BQ - need to shave 23 minutes off PR.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running.

When I started running my wish that turned into a goal was to qualify for Boston. Just so I could say "I qualified for Boston."

AFTER BQ, I think I will do some Tri events.  For sure some Half Ironman events, and see where that takes me.

Set out to run 12 miles.  I could feel my achilles from about the second mile on.  Then could feel my ITB from about mile 4.  Pretty cruddy run.  I was trying to take it slow, ended up slow.  How is it that I can run 8-9 miles at 7:30 pace and when I intentionally run slow it is HARD.  I felt like garbage the whole way.  Achilles is SORE, ITB is really sore.  Guess I'll take 2-3 days off and see if I can gain some ground on the problems.

Sometimes running too slow can be so stinkin' hard on the body!

Good idea to take some time off ... let everything relax, decompress, heal, etc.

Laters DB!!

From Maurine/Tarzan on Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 20:40:51 from 97.117.76.235

Hope you are feeling better. Have you tried massage and stretching?

From Jon A on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 10:07:08 from 67.214.249.195

Teena, Slow is so DIFFICULT. There must be a sweet spot between SLOW and regular/fast, I need to find that. I think I have taken to much time off.

Maurine, Hey glad to have Miles the Sherpa check in on me! I haven't done any massage, and a little stretching. I need to be better about that. Its been a difficult thing to work into my routine!

From marion on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 10:21:52 from 71.213.119.198

Sorry about that blasted ITB :( Great miles. Hey is there a tri sprint in Orem in september? I was told there is, but I can't find it on line. I am probably going to do the one in Sandy with Miles, but I will have more luck getting my family to join in if it is closer. My family is stacked pretty deep with the swimmers, but could use some runners. I can't convince them that running is not evil. Maybe if I weren't so nuts, they'd come over to the dark side ;)

From Teena on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 11:19:19 from 67.177.20.13

DB,

I think you are right. For me that spot is right around 8:41. Not too slow, not too fast ... just right!! :)

From Jon A on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 11:51:51 from 67.214.249.195

Marion - How is the marathon finisher doing? I'm so happy for you that you finished a marathon, and well ahead of schedule.

I don't know about a tri in Orem. There is one in Oct/Nov. They do it in reverse. Run/Bike/Swim. TELOS in Orem puts that one on. They don't do a really good job of advertising, but the race is good. I think you should make relay teams out of your kids, enter them into three races and have them rotate what event they are doing.

TJ - 8:40 ish is a good pace. I think mine is right there, maybe down closer to 8:20. I need to find it. 9 is to slow.

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 15:51:03 from 71.36.79.7

Have you found your "sweet" pace yet? I think if Kelly was running with you, you'd enjoy whatever pace she runs. :)

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 15:55:02 from 71.219.76.64

Hi Jon. Long time, no talk.

From Jon A on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 16:04:24 from 67.214.249.195

Smooth - YES, that would be for sure! Kelly has a sweet pace for me! :-)

Kelli - Are you ready for WB? Your going to have a blast!

Smooth, are you in WB?

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 16:13:50 from 71.219.76.64

Sure, I am ready. It is a no stress "race" for me. Just for fun!

From Jon A on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 16:25:42 from 67.214.249.195

I don't believe that. You kick it all the time!

Did I see you are going to go run people in at Park City? Is Scott going to run PC?

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:07:01 from 71.219.76.64

Scott is NOT running Park City, I will not let him. He is actually in REALLY bad shape right now. I wish we did not have Ragnar this weekend. I may have to run some of his legs for him. Hopefully it will heal quick, but he said it has never hurt like this, EVER!

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:08:40 from 71.219.76.64

Oh, and yes, I did agree to run People in at Park City if I can (I do not even know the date). But, if I am home and not off at girls camp or something, I am going to do it. I had a blast this last Saturday running in all sorts of people at the marathon. WAY better than running it myself.

Wasatch Back is a different beast, really. I do not see it as a race. I will do the best I can, but by the third leg when I have had no sleep and it is HOT and I am running up a mountain, you better believe you will see a lot of walking!

From Teena on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:09:41 from 67.177.20.13

Speaking of Scott ... Kels, did you get my text?

(sorry to interupt)

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:12:44 from 71.219.76.64

My phone is in the car. Let me go get it!

From Jon A on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:14:47 from 67.214.249.195

Scott better heal himself up! He is supposed to run Boston with me (and you) next year. I'm one to talk I know.

From Jon A on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:15:20 from 67.214.249.195

Nope, no text.

From Jon A on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:15:36 from 67.214.249.195

Oh wait, I got one. From Kelly! Yeah!

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:17:18 from 71.219.76.64

I did, e-mailed you.

Jon, he will BQ if it kills him and it just may!

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:18:20 from 71.219.76.64

BTW, intentionally running slow actually takes quite a bit of practice. I know it sounds dumb, but it really does. I have verified this with many runners. However, it is very important!

From Jon A on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:23:34 from 67.214.249.195

I used to run slower, but that is all I ever did. I'm getting used to what I call my more natural pace. I too have heard that we should have "slower" paced runs. Just amazes me how hard it is.

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:24:05 from 71.36.79.7

Jon, I (Smoothie) am in WB. I paid big bucks to be tortured. I am so NOT ready!

Yes, I was one of those "interesting" pace Kelli had to run in. Kelli, Park City is on Aug. 22. Scott can run the Half and you can run me in. :) Jon, sorry to hijack your blog.

From Jon A on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:28:23 from 67.214.249.195

I think Kelli has stumbled onto something kinda fun.

Maurine is the Sherpa and Kelli is the Finisher.

Sounds like a better way to cheer your friends!

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:57:17 from 71.219.76.64

It was fun! Nothing better than finishing a race without actually running it!

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:58:13 from 71.219.76.64

Hmmm.....when is Hobblecreek?????

From Jon A on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 18:03:51 from 67.214.249.195

Hobble Creek is Aug 22. I missed the reg for that. :-(

Did you and Scott get in?

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 18:04:56 from 71.219.76.64

We did, I guess you can go run Smooth in!!!

From Jon A on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 18:10:43 from 67.214.249.195

I may be a bandit. Bummer that I missed that! I was looking forward to running it. (officially)

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 18:12:05 from 71.36.79.7

Jon,

Are you game for Park City? Lots of bike paths in them mountains.

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 18:12:37 from 71.219.76.64

Hey, that is where we met, huh??? Were you a bandit or just Scooby?

From Jon A on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 19:06:41 from 67.214.249.195

Smooth, That sounds fun. I'll talk to Kelly and see if she is game for some finishing. Would be a blast!

Kelli, Yeah, Hobble Creek is the first race I met you at, and you chicked me. Scooby was the bandit. Maybe I'll just skip this year so it won't be 2 years in a row that I get chicked by you.

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 20:26:11 from 71.219.76.64

Come on, JON!!! You gotta give me some motivation to get moving. I remember we ran that first mile together and you were freaked out about our pace (it was close to 9) and you took off. I was thinking, huh? I must have scared him!
