Short-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy!

Would like to BQ - need to shave 23 minutes off PR.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running.

When I started running my wish that turned into a goal was to qualify for Boston. Just so I could say "I qualified for Boston."

AFTER BQ, I think I will do some Tri events.  For sure some Half Ironman events, and see where that takes me.

Recovery run for me.  Sat is still in my legs.  I could really feel it on the down hill today.  I wonder if that means I didn't stretch good enough post race, or because I didn't ice ......?

Seems like the first run after a race that I actually set goals on is when I do the most thinking about the race.  I really see the need for endurance training.  The last couple miles I fell apart.  Had I been running normal weekday runs of 7-10 miles I think I would have faired better on the last couple miles Saturday.  Also, I am now a little more glad I took the few seconds to get a gulp of water and walk the 20-30 steps just about mile 5 (second drink station).  I think that little break let me reset and gave me just enough break to give me the second wind to push on through to the end.  On a positive note I like that 1.) my AP was below 7 for the race 2.) I now know I can run a mile in under 6 min.  (need to through me off a cliff, but somehow I came in under 6.)  :-)

Happy day, hope you all have a good day!

Nice job today. For a seasoned veteran such as yourself it is cool to see that you are still learning.

Nice and easy recovery Run. Great race by the way. You looked stong at the End.

Jun - Haha, you are very funny. "seasoned vet". hahaha. NOT. I have so much to learn!

Bill - Thanks, wish I had your speed and endurance. At least I can work on endurance. :-)

Jon, very nice recovery run. Did you look at everyone else's race report on Spectrum? We all "suffer" the last two miles. It's the nature of that course. Everyone goes out fast. If you don't, you'd loose the advantage. The last two miles had some incline and really did a number on everyone's head. With that said, I agree that building up your mileage will improve your endurance. Have you ever tried running the last 1/3 or last 5K of your long run at marathon pace or faster? It teaches you to push hard when tired.

You are a great runner. You have the speed and the tenacity. Savor the victory of running sub-7 miles. I know you will do well and have many more PRs in your near future! :)

Smooth, you are sooooo nice! Thank you! I haven't thought of doing that with my long runs. I have on occasions done that, but it is by accident. Something where I discover I am in more of a hurry than I thought so I run faster to get home or to the car.....But now that you say that I can see how it would help. I will start doing that.

Thank you for your positive outlook. It rubs off!!!!

jon it was kind of funny that you asked that question today!! You need to read my workout that I did today, I ran a 5k at the end of the run at MP. Smooth really knows what she is talking about. I have always tried to run the last 2-3 miles of any run at MP or just below that. It depends on how far I am going too. In a 5 mile run, try and run at least 1 mile at MP and so on... We need to go for a long run and talk more about it. I am no expert, but since I have started doing speed I can tell that it has helped my endurance a lot.
