Stay healthy!

Would like to BQ - need to shave 23 minutes off PR.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running.

When I started running my wish that turned into a goal was to qualify for Boston. Just so I could say "I qualified for Boston."

AFTER BQ, I think I will do some Tri events.  For sure some Half Ironman events, and see where that takes me.

Ran up Provo Canyon.  Kelly biked up to the top of South Fork and back down until she got to me, then back up a ways and ...... I think she ended up with 26 miles.

We hit rain big time on the way down.  I was soaked!

Held a pretty good pace going up, faster coming down.  Felt good that I was able to bring the overall average down under 8.  I think going up I was 8:15 or so, but finished the run with the last three miles at 7:27, 7:32 and 7:29.

1:52/7:55 min per mile

Have a great weekend.

8:15 up a canyon is pretty speedy! I bet Kelly has a blast biking up that thing. YIKES!

From Smooth on Sun, Apr 26, 2009 at 12:55:14 from 71.36.71.239

Wow,

WAY to blast UP the canyon. GOOD JOB to Kelly biking a marathon UP and DOWN! Glad you got most of your miles done before the rain storm. I saw the mountains on Sat. and they looked like they're in Washington State.

Your an 8:15s UP A CANYON!!!

Nice work DB!!

(Check out that sub 8 average for a long run ... VERY COOL!)

From jona on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 01:39:28 from 76.27.81.31

Thanks all. I keep thinking my pace should be way faster than that. I hope it starts to come together.

Teena, you don't think that is toooo fast, should I back it down to 8:20-8:30? McMillan indicates I should be doing 8:30, and speed work in the low 7's. I hope I'm not messing things up.

Hey, Kelli/TJ, have you two had problems with your IT band? My hip (deep in, and very top of hamstring) is hurting. Its been hurting for a little more than a week, its making me a little nervous.

From Teena on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 10:31:18 from 67.177.20.13

DB,

I think that is dang fast to be running 8:15s up a canyon ... especially if you are having IT band issues. Slow it down a bit!!!

Yes, both Kelli and I have had major IT band problems. The best thing you can do is STRETCH, ICE, AND DEEP MASSAGE. Yoga does wonders. Try Rodney Yee's AM/PM Yoga (the AM portion is only 17 minutes and it has AWESOME stretches for the IT band). You can get it at Target for $20. Also, If you could get Kelly to rub down that facia SUPER SUPER SUPER hard it will release some of the tension and help a ton. I'm talking HARD!!! You should feel like crying/screaming. Just have her take the palm of her hand and dig in and with lots of pressure take it from the hip down to the exertion point on the side of your knee.

Baby it now so you don't pay for it later!!

From Kelli on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 13:22:26 from 71.219.83.91

My hip pretty much always hurts, but I have gotten the pain out of my knee. If the IT band pain moves to the knee, the running will be seriously affected. So, take care of it now. There are some very good yoga stretches that loosen up the hip, MUST DO! And downhill running should be avoided when you can. AND, I know you hate it, but maybe a week of slower running will help, too!

From jona on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 14:30:26 from 69.27.13.147

Humm, You both recommended yoga. I feel sooooo lame doing yoga. I can't seem to get my body to do those things. But maybe I should give it another try.

Running slow isn't a problem, I am already doing that! :-)

From Teena on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 15:41:41 from 67.177.20.13

Do it DB!!!

Only the manliest of men do Yoga!!

From jona on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 16:18:40 from 69.27.13.147

That is FUNNY! "Manliest"

From Teena on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 16:21:07 from 67.177.20.13

Not funny ... SO TRUE!!

Did you happen to see the picture of Bob on RivertonPaul's blog?

WOW!!!

From jona on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 16:27:32 from 69.27.13.147

I did see that, can you say photo shop? :-)

From jona on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 16:30:05 from 69.27.13.147

I should give it a try. Maybe I can do that pose someday! Would be sweet if I could. I'll make sure I post the picture.

From Teena on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 16:30:31 from 67.177.20.13

No way DB!!

That is REAL!!!

Don't mess with my mind!! :)

From jona on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 16:31:26 from 69.27.13.147

Wait, who is Bob?

From Teena on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 16:32:24 from 67.177.20.13

Bet you can do that pose now!!

You better get clearance from Kelly before you post the pic though!!

We'll all be checking your blog frequently! :)

From Teena on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 16:33:20 from 67.177.20.13

You are totally messing with me now!!

From jona on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 16:37:57 from 69.27.13.147

HaHa, no way could I do that!

Really, who is this "Bob"?

From Teena on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 16:40:26 from 67.177.20.13

You could totally do it!!

Bob is a personal trainer on The Biggest Loser. Jillian is the other trainer. And she doesn't have a wacked out face like that! :)

From jona on Mon, Apr 27, 2009 at 17:01:21 from 69.27.13.147

That wacked out face made me wonder even more if the photo was "fixed" up.

From Kelli on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 11:04:11 from 71.219.83.91

From the Biggest Loser's number one fan----BOB does look like that, exactly. And that pose he is doing is THE pose for your IT band. You can do it while holding onto a wall, that was how I started. It REALLY helps JON! Give it a try.

From jona on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 11:13:02 from 69.27.13.147

So Kelli, you can do that pose? Without the wall? Wow. I don't think I can do it. Yoga is hard. And I feel like such a dork when I can't bend like they want me to.

From Kelli on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 13:20:59 from 71.219.83.91

I can, after much practice!!!! But really, it will help your hip. Do it in the privacy of your home, then no one can laugh!!!!
