Short-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy!

Would like to BQ - need to shave 23 minutes off PR.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running.

When I started running my wish that turned into a goal was to qualify for Boston. Just so I could say "I qualified for Boston."

AFTER BQ, I think I will do some Tri events.  For sure some Half Ironman events, and see where that takes me.

Ran the JRP.  Went north first up to Camp Williams.  Was nice, the hills at the end of that 5 mile section were bugers.

Had a MINOR break through.  I planed on 13, when I was at 7 or so I was mentally starting to justify going shorter.  I actually had talked myself down to 10.  But then I realized and told myself that I was going 13, even if I walked I would go 13!  I did, I made it to 13.  I have been having a mental block on going more than 10 lately.  I had a couple of SLOW miles in there, but I made it.

Told myself that I had to take this run slower.  I think I did that.  Probably should keep it closer to 8.

Hope everyone had a GREAT 4th!

Sounds like you are getting the better of your mental issues. Good for you. You're already back near top form, only to get stronger.

Way to fight back the urges to do less. Now next time you face it next week. Just say you can do it and did it last week and you will. Great avg pace too.

Thanks guys, I haven't had these kinds of mental problems in years past. Hope I can get my brain in the game. :-)

GOOD JOB!!! I had that mental block on Fri. at around mile 8 on the JRP too. It must be the heat or running solo. Anyway, SO SO SO GLAD you broke thru that mental block and finished your 13 miler. When/what's your next race?

From Jon A on Mon, Jul 06, 2009 at 17:17:49 from 67.214.249.195

Hey Smooth, I don't have a for sure race planned (other than SGM). I will try and bandit Hobble Creek and want to try and run Provo Canyon Half.

And you?

Oh, yeah I think your on to something with the running alone thing. I need to find some running partners for the longer runs.

TJ - Thanks. If only I could have your concentration. You've been out of commission for a few months and did I see you put 14+ up on the board? Wow girl. Amazing.

From Smooth on Tue, Jul 07, 2009 at 11:39:39 from 70.56.101.209

Jon, are you going out of town this Sat? If not, come run Provo river trail, the RHPC 1/2 with us.

I have always run long runs alone until this year when I met the bloggers on JRP and discovered the joy of running with someone. I now find running long solo tough mentally.

SGM is my goal race and it seems so far away; yet I have been training for a long time, since Nov 09 when I trained for Boston. I think signing up for other races keep me motivated to train. That's why I do the Grand Slam. Park City Marathon is my next race. I might do DNews10k and Spanish Fork Half.
