Short-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy!

Would like to BQ - need to shave 23 minutes off PR.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running.

When I started running my wish that turned into a goal was to qualify for Boston. Just so I could say "I qualified for Boston."

AFTER BQ, I think I will do some Tri events.  For sure some Half Ironman events, and see where that takes me.

Married to Kelly (with a 'Y')

I was down in St George for a bike race.  Kelly and her friend rode in a 100 mile bike race, Kelly's friends husband and I were their support car.  They did great.  BUT as a side effect, I was there to support them and not there for my personal stuff.  So I didn't get many miles in.  There was on stretch they were on that was going to take awhile so I ran, got to about 4.67 before the girls caught me.  On a positive note I was running in nice temps and beautiful surroundings.  I was running towards Zions Nat. park.  Very nice!  The wind blowing out of Zions was horrible.  I felt pushed back the entire time.

When I started running I was thinking I could only get 2 miles before the girls would catch me, so I went out fast.  Fast and against the wind, after the first little while I felt horrible.  That and 20 min prior I ate a Blimbe 6" sandwich with bananna peppers, mustard, mayo.......  About did me in.  Took the rest of the 5 miles to settle down and feel like I could run for a little while.

When Kelly cought me I didn't want her to have to slow to say hi so I sprinted.  It was also out of interest to see if when I was feeling tired I could sprint.  (Not that it would do ANY good.)  I stayed right there with her (ok, I'll admit, she probably slowed WAY down before I knew it was her).  My watch had me at 4:53 pace (11.2 mph).  Cool.

Well, it was fun seeing a different sports endurace event, not the biggest endurance event for biking, but still a GOOD challenge.  I don't know that I could make it 100 miles on a bike without DIEING!

I figure I will be starting more serious running this next week.  I have to get going, got to get my mind in the game.  Time to build miles and endurance so I can have a good running season!  Having HUGE mind games right now!

Have a great day everyone!

What a beautiful place for a run. I lived down in Cedar City for 7 years and loved that part of the state.

Nice job finding any way possible to get out.

4:53!!! You were flying! :) OK, do the same in two weeks at Spectrum!!! Alright, time to take those long legs of yours out there and kick some major asphalt. Have a great week!

WOW, what a fun post! I felt like I was right there living it with you until you had to mention the 4:53 pace, HOLY SHNICKIES!!!! What a fun experience for Kelly, I am sure she was so glad to have you there. And, its so nice of you to support her and recognize it as her moment. What a great guy!! She is a sweetie!! Great job Jon!!
