Just ran around the neighborhood.  For the most part flat.  Missed yesterday, and was supposed to keep it "slow" today.  I uploaded my watch to the computer and it should have gone to the internet so I could check it hear at work and report on it.  BUT, for some reason it didn't upload to the internet.  Hummm.

Well, from memory I think the AP was 7:32.  I know I had at least two miles # 3 and 4 that were like 7:15, and 7:20, or something in that general time frame.

I was supposed to take it easier.  FAIL.  I have "speed" work tomorrow.  Hope I don't die.  :-)

Have a great day!

Well, got out a little late and had to be be to work a little earlier so I had to abbreviate my planed workout.  My legs were feeling SOOOOO tired.  Found every lap difficult.

I ran 4x800 with 200 slow between.  Ran 1.5 before and after.  Wimpy speed workout!

 Lap Time Mile Pace

 1 3:10 6:20
 2 3:10 6:20
 3 3:22 6:44
 4 3:23 6:46

Ran the 1.5 after to add some extra miles/cool down.  Wasn't a "cool down."  AP was 7:38.

PM - 10.5 mile bike ride up Suncrest and back down.  Hard ride on a mountain bike, all the little road bikes just pass me like I'm not there.

Have a great day!

Ran on the canal road today.  I was supposed to run yesterday, but had to be to work early and then night was YUCK wind, so ran this morning.  That wind was WOW.  Kelly lost 4 sections of fence.  BENT the posts over.  (She has a vinyl fence).

I was supposed to keep it easy today.  I tried.  I know it wasn't as easy as it should have been, but at least it was closer.

On my second mile I was about .25 into it and realized I was GAINING on a biker.  SOOOOOO, I picked up the pace.  Caught her.  I kinda felt bad, she was struggling, not a "seasoned" biker, to me she seemed like more of a beginner, and I thought "I hope she doesn't get discouraged that a runner passed her."  Is that awful that I thought she was a beginner?  We were on a incline and the wind was in our face, but she was on a road bike and not wearing all the fancy bike clothes......and she just looked like she was having a hard time.  Maybe she was just finishing and she had already ridden 50 miles.  Well, I was excited to have a biker be my "carrot".

On my third mile I was watching this runner come towards me and all of a sudden the runner JUMPED and screamed.  She was on the other side of the road,  I smiled and thought she was trying to stay away from the grasshoppers that are invading the valley, I yelled, "just step on them."  She yelled back "SNAKE!".  "COOL", so I took a run over to that side of the road and found the snake.  Darn, it was dead.  Scared that lady though.

Have a great day!

Went over to the JRP and ran with Scott & Kelli, Smooth, Walter, John (neighbor of Smooth), and Rachel.  John and ran together for a few miles (9-10).  Was really good to run with others.  When the whole group was running at the start to warm up I mentioned that I had spoken more in that few minutes than I had on all my runs in the previous week combined.

Run was good.  I felt tired, a little sore.  I went slower than  usual.  Oh, time for new shoes.  I can feel the spring in the shoes has gone bye bye.

Kelly did AWESOME on her bike ride.  I was able to find her on the route over on the west side of UT lake.  Her team came in 1st.  Kelly had a great ride, she was feeling really good and was able to help her other teammates several times when they were struggling.

Have a great weekend!

Oh how I didn't want to get out of bed today!  Then I didn't want to get my shoes on, then I didn't want to walk down the hall to the door, then I about turned around and to go back to bed.  Somehow I talked myself into going ahead.

Started off tired/sore/tight muscles from Sat long run.  Today I ran an out and back to the mouth of the canyon.  I was supposed to have an AP of 8:02.  When I hit the turn around spot I decided I would go for a negative split, mostly because I had a head wind the whole way headed out.  Looks like I got that.  I don't feel like I worked hard though so I hope it will be ok when Wed speed work gets here.

Was supposed to do speed work today.  That darn bed held me to long.  I tried once to get out but the bed arms were toooooo strong..  So, with a late start I opted for a basic run and tried to push the pace.  I was successful for 2 miles.  I went slower for the first half of the next two miles and kicked it for the second half, but the slow made the second half splits look SLOW.

Splits: 7:47, 6:56, 6:52, 7:15, 7:11, 7:52

I probably need to concentrate on my warm up and slow down.  OK, I have already gone over that, I DO need to slow it up a bit.  I just SOOOOOO focused in on the overall average pace, so much so that even right now I'm a worried I was tooo slow because all I see is 7:20.  The pace for the middle 4 miles was 7:04, that maybe what I should be focused on.

Time: 44:18
Avg Pace: 7:20 min/mi

Ran an out and back on the canal road.  Felt pretty good.

I got scared by this dog.  It was a miniature Schnauzer, ("they" say they are loyal, but they aren't!) the owner was coming up this hill that is to the side of the canal road, it was "barking" (they must of had the bark removed, which makes it sound awful) but the bark sounded like it was in a back yard a little ways away.  WRONG, 3 feet from me the dog popped up, it wasn't looking like it was going to bite, but boy was it right there.  My heart jumped about 20 bpm.

Anyway, run was good.

Phew, glad I made it!  STILL alive.  My first 20 miler of the season.  I am OUT OF SHAPE!

Ran up Provo Canyon to the top of South Fork.  I you have run the Provo River Half the top of that road is about a mile up from the start line of the PRH.  Thats about 3000 ft of climb over 10 miles.  But I did get to come down it.  :-)  But boy were my legs trashed by the time I turned around.

Kelly got to be my traveling aid station, she rode her bike along side the whole way.  The first 8 miles it was rainy.

My legs are sore!  I can't believe how hard the run was today.  I feel like such a wimp.  The mile took a long time and I felt like I had to work really hard for every step.  My right ITB was/is tight.

New shoes felt good.  I think they will work well.  I usually get the gel Cumulas, but they were out of my size, so I got the step up model.  The cushion is supposed to be nicer/better......

Got out early to run today so I could get my run in and see kids off to school.. 8 mile loop down to Costco and back to the house. Time was ok. I need to be a little faster. I'm about a minute off my desired marathon time for 8 miles. But on a positive note I took it easy on the east side when I could have pushed the pace easier (tail wind and slight downhill).

I think I am coming down with something, my legs are super tired and I am soooooo sleepy I can hardly see straight.  Hopefully I can shake this soon.

Well, I have been avoiding this.  I am really disappointed in myself.  Disappointed in my preperation, disappointed in my performance, and really disappointed in my lack of focus.

I have been feeling like I'm coming down with something, but that is a POOR excuse for these times.  I'm really disappointed that I allowed myself to quit.  There were several walk breaks in the last few miles, my quads were just burning from mile 5 or so.  Here are some notes that go with the miles.

 Pace Thoughts
 6:33 Feeling ok.  Pretty Comfortable
6:57 Miles 2 - 4 I kept thinking, am I going to fast?  I feel ok.  Mile 2 my shoe came untied.
 6:57
 6:57
7:05 Here is where I started feeling my legs get tired.
7:11 Fighting off tired legs, keep thinking it will go away.
8:01 Took gel, water, walked through aid station. Hoping I could reset and go.
7:44 No luck on the reset.
 8:06
 8:34

Wheels really feeling like they have fallen off.

8:53Wheels gone.  See Kelly.  Mentally checked out.
8:46Kelly tries to reassure that I am still doing a good job.
8:18Run a little faster.  Legs are trash!!!
?:??Kicked in the last .1  past some guy. (sorry dude)

I don't know what happened with my watch, it seemed like it was off on the miles the whole way.  So I don't know what that last little bit was.  The time on my watch is the same as the official time, so I know I started it and it ran the whole time, just wrong miles.  ??? Oh well.

On a positive note, Kelly came down to see me come into the finish.  It felt very good that my sweetheart would bother to come see me.  That is positive, but I felt horrible that I didn't have a better showing.

Lessons I think I have learned.

1.) MUST get more rest the night before.  I think I got 3 hrs sleep.

2.) MUST MUST cross train and build strength in the quads.

3.) MUST MUST MUST get myself more mentally tough.  I can't allow myself to quit.

I sure didn't want to get out of bed today!  My legs are still sore from Sat.  I am still bummed with my training/focus/performance Sat.

Run today went well.  I wanted to turn around at mile 2.5 and again at 3 and again at 4.  One of the things I think I have allowed is cutting planned workouts short.  This has allowed my mind to quit when I shouldn't.  (like at Hobble Creek)

I was trying to keep the pace as close to 8 as possible.  I'm really shocked how sore my legs are!  I ran 20 miles two Saturdays and then all week I have felt like I am coming down with something, my legs were sore after Monday's run and for the rest of the week. Today, two days after Hobble Creek they hurt to straighten out and to go down stairs is horrible.  Oh well.

ON a positive note, Kelly and I got our letters from the first Pres Saturday.  YEAH!!!!!  Now we can set a date and move forward!!!!!!!!  YeeeeeeeHAW.  We are thinking Oct 16.   SWEEEEEET.

Ran from the house to about 1 mile up Provo Canyon.  I'm surprised how my legs are still sore. The down hill is just yuck.  Usually I like to open up and let the down take me faster, but the top of the quads are just SORE......

So, another easy day.  This week will be all slower, like this run or Mondays run.

Got up, got ready.  Bathroom wouldn't let me go.  I have some sort of bug.  URRRRR.

When I finally got out the door I only had 30-35 min to run.  So, I did what I could.

Starting off I could feel some sort of strain/pulled something on the outside of my leg above my ankle.  Yesterday I started to go up some stairs at work fast (like two at a time) with a lot bounce (kinda like running), and I could feel I was sore deep in there from Sat.  So I stopped going up the stairs like that.  This morning it was SORE to push off.  It took 200 yards or so to get where I could stride somewhat normal.  The pain/soreness didn't get worse so I kept going.

With the lack of time, and my legs feeling good after a warm up, I decided I would push the pace a little and see how it would go.  After all I knew I wouldn't be getting many miles in today, so why not have a couple fast miles.  Things felt good.  The soreness above the ankle never went away all together, but did subside somewhat.  Legs in general felt GOOD.  Lots of water, NO soda, and a few days recover after Sat and legs are feeling good.

PS - I keep forgetting to tell everyone about the running with the bulls (ok, cows) at Hobble Creek Half .  I was running down the canyon and from the right side there was two cows that bolted across the street and up the side of the hill on the left.  Then about 100 yards later a younger cow bolts out on the street gets scared of the runners and turns around back down the side of the road, well that caused the calf to panic, when it an the mom emurged out of the brush to cross the street, mom was ANGRY, she had her angry voice on and mooooo'd angry and right at all of us.  I thought she was going to stand and fight.  Luckly she wanted out of there as much as we did.

Went to Logan and supported Kelly and her friend for their last big hard training rides before the LOTOJA race on the 12th.  They rode the 3 main peaks for the course, about 90 miles of the 200+ route.  I think they are going to do very good.

I went out ahead of them on one of the peaks and ran down 2 miles and then back up to the car.  Added an extra mile of flat at the top.

Then I went out ahead of them and parked the car at Montpelier ID and got another 2 miles in before they got there.

End of an easy week.  Next week will be about 10 more than this week.  Hopefully I will be feeling better.

Have a great day!
