Went to the gym and ran.  Someday I'll be brave and go outside and run.  Was feeling yuck (throat is sore, and head is swimming a little) at the start, so told myself to go 4 miles.  Looking back after the run I should have gone 5 or 6 but I had it in my head to go 4.

So I thought I would see how my pace per mile looked on a per lap basis.  So, it takes 6 and a fifth laps for one mile, but I just looked at the pace ongoing for each lap.

Have a great day!

Went to the gym again.  I know I should go outside, and on Saturdays when I have others to go with I go outside, but when I'm by myself I don't like the cold more.

Ran into a old mission friend.  He started his mission just a month before me, and served in the same area's a couple times.  I think whenever I feel bad about my sitsuation I will recall what he is going through.  In 2007 he and his wife found out that she has Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease".  She is mentally just fine, but she is watching her body just totally fall apart.  She is on a special breathing thing that forces air into her lungs, she can exhale, but has lost most use of her body. (arms, legs, body).  They have 3 girls 18 down to 9.

Counting my blessings right now!

Ran at the gym again.  It will be interesting to see how my speed is when I go outside.  The track is flat and smooth, and there is no wind.

Will work on the distance tomorrow.  Planning on meeting everyone at the bridge and the JRP in Lehi.  Hope the weather is ok.  I think I will go no matter what.

Have a great night!

Went to the Jordan River Parkway trail today.  Met Kelli and Scott and Rachel, and Smooth.  I talked Kelly and her friends Wendy and Deb and Connie in coming too.  I had to leave early so I got there a little early and ran 4 miles before everyone got there.  Was raining at first but cleared and was nice.

Glad I got the extra miles in prior.

Was nice to see everyone!  I'm looking forward to spring/summer when I can get more miles in outside.  I know I shouldn't let the little cold bother me but I do and I don't get a lot of miles in durring the week.

Have a great weekend!

Went to the fitness center, circle of death again.  I don't know that I can go more than 6, 7 miles on that thing.  37 laps today.   Total time was 44:45.So, 7:28 average.  I know there was a fast mile in there, but I don't feel like adding all the times together so I'll just not worry about it.

There was this kid that was running and passed me when I was warming up.  He wasn't going really fast, 8:30 or so, just enough to pass me and gain a little.  Well as I started to speed up I gained on him fairly fast, but when I pulled next to him, he bolted like he was in the Olympics on the bell lap of a gold medal race.  So I tried to maintain speed, he relaxed 5 steps in front of me, and slowed to normal again, then as I pulled up, there he goes again.  So I decide to sit on his shoulder and let him hold that faster pace and see how it goes.  His pace surges up and down for a lap or two,  which is really annoying, because I started off trying to pass on the inside since he was hugged to the left of the lane, and so I was put on the inside which is a little faster and he would crowd right down on me to hug the inside more.  Soooooo, I decide I would sit right on him and on the straight away step up the speed to fast (for me) I think if I remember right those three laps were at @ 1:10, 1:09, and 1:04 which 1:04 is 6:38 pace.  Well I kept the fast speed for a lap and put some ground between us and a few other runners and he never came back up to me.  Yeah.  What I really find interesting is how he just didn't want to be passed.  I don't know how long he would have allowed me to sit on his shoulder, but I have found that I can keep really close to the same pace on that track for 4-5 miles.  Oh well, fun testing myself.  :-)

I guess I shouldn't count it as 5, I only timed 4.  But as I was cooling down I felt like I should keep going on the nice slow pace, so I added another but had already stopped my watch.

I'm sure looking forward to better weather.  I just don't care for the sub freezing runs.  What a baby.

Fourteen miles for the fourteenth day of the month.   Good fourteenth.  The miles were slow.  Ran with Kelly, Wendy, Deb, and Connie (food poison Connie).  Just ran around the streets of Highland/Alpine.  Was actually a nice for a run.  I did a few run ahead and came back to the group.  We were headed on the final point two five miles and I saw that I wouldn't get eleven miles for the day I decided to turn around and head out again.  Ask Kelly to pick me up when she was done.  Told her that I would go to this one street and run down it, and that is where I figured she would catch up with me.  I thought I would add a mile maybe one and a half.  But ended up with more than three.

Those last three were a BIG struggle.  I kept hitting what I call mini walls.  I would find myself thinking of nothing except STOP and my body would obey.  So then I would have to really tell myself to ignore the tired feeling and GO.  I would go for awhile and then STOP, ugh!  After the third time of this I started asking myself, self, why are you having a hard time with this?  You have run this far before, you have run faster than this, you have run up hills steeper and longer than this, you have been way more tired than this, so why is it being so hard?  I couldn't figure it out.  Then it hit me, USUALLY I have a set place that I'm running to.  Run down there and back, run around this track until you hit x mile, run that loop.......at this particular time I was running up and down this street, with no final spot/distance/time to hit.  I was just running until Kelly got there to pick me up and I didn't know when that would be.  Very weird little mind game.  About three or four minutes later Kelly pulled up, I was at thirteen point nine four miles, so I decided that I would not quit until I got the next mile.  Phew!

Sorry for the long boaring write up!

Hope everyone had a good Valentines Day!

Got my hind end outside today.  Thats two runs in a row outside.  My body is going to FREAK out.

Decided to run up Provo Canyon.  The path was clear in a couple places, but ice/snow pack on most of it.  Add wind and going up the canyon and it feels like your going backwards for the most part.  Which got me thinking about some posts I've seen on the blog that use math formula's to calculate different things.  So I was wondering what actual pace I was running concidering the yucky factors.  I know I was working a lot harder when I was going up to hold that pace.

Oh well, my legs felt heavy, I was on ice and snow and wind blowing in my face, but I got out and I got miles and at least I wasn't walking the miles.

Have a great day!

Ran to the fitness center, 2.73 miles and met Kelly.  She is having the injury bug hit her in a big way this year.  Saturday when we were running she was having knee pain and "powered" through and it has been hurting ever since.  Well tonight she was going to try and run some with me at the fitness center on the outdoor track.  She couldn't.  Walking hurt.  Ughhhh.  So I put 2.5 more miles on the indoor track while she rode the bike.  Then we lifted weights.

Good fast pace for me.  Makes me hopeful that I am making some sort of progress with speed.  I think I will get more endurance as the weather starts to warm.

Well, 4 runs in a row that were outside, I'm gonna live in denial that I had some indoor miles the other day.

Only 3 miles today, but I feel lucky that I got any in.  Somedays things come easy and somedays they come hard.  I had to work at the pace today.  Really work.  I feel like expended a lot of energy.

I'm looking forward to running with the group tomorrow.  Will be nice to run with someone.  I see the benifits of others being able to push you or you pushing them.

Started the day thinking it would be nice to get 12-15 in.  Probably should set my sites on a specific distance and do that.

Met Scott & Kelli, Allan (I think that is his name), Smooth, Rachel, and Becca at the JRP.  Was nice to see everyone and have people to run with.

I'm really feeling the lack of weekday miles.  I hit the hills on the North end of our route and just about died.  I told Scott that Wed I had lifted weights for the first time in MONTHS and I concentrated on my legs.  I was feeling it BIG time.  My mind gave out on me about mile 8, so struggled to get into the 10 spot, ran slow for a mile, then ran with the group.  Had given up and was going to get in the car and go home and decided I should push myself a little so went on part of the South side with the group.

Someday I may decide to be a runner.  I'm having BIG mental blocks right now.  My mind is just not in the (this) game.

On my way home I decided to surprise Kelly and see if I could leave a treat in her car for when she returns from her bike ride.  One of her car doors was unlocked and I put the treats in the car.  As I shut the door I heard all the doors lock.  NOOOOOOOO, I wonder if she had hidden her key inside and now I have locked her out.  Sooooo, called her, had to ruin the surprise, luckly she had her key, the door was open by mistake.  Darn!  Surprised ruined.  :-(

Ran around the neighborhood with Kelly.  Mostly easy miles, did some faster outs then back to Kelly, but not much.  Did have one mile at 7:38, at the end, Kelly's knee was hurting so I ran ahead to get the car.

Kelly met me in Orem and she needed a work out so I went to the gym with her.  While she did her bike/weights I ran the indoor track.  :-(  Kinda bummed to run the track, but at least I got my hind end out there and ran.  But very glad to be hanging with Kelly!!!! :-)

I was down in St George for a bike race.  Kelly and her friend rode in a 100 mile bike race, Kelly's friends husband and I were their support car.  They did great.  BUT as a side effect, I was there to support them and not there for my personal stuff.  So I didn't get many miles in.  There was on stretch they were on that was going to take awhile so I ran, got to about 4.67 before the girls caught me.  On a positive note I was running in nice temps and beautiful surroundings.  I was running towards Zions Nat. park.  Very nice!  The wind blowing out of Zions was horrible.  I felt pushed back the entire time.

When I started running I was thinking I could only get 2 miles before the girls would catch me, so I went out fast.  Fast and against the wind, after the first little while I felt horrible.  That and 20 min prior I ate a Blimbe 6" sandwich with bananna peppers, mustard, mayo.......  About did me in.  Took the rest of the 5 miles to settle down and feel like I could run for a little while.

When Kelly cought me I didn't want her to have to slow to say hi so I sprinted.  It was also out of interest to see if when I was feeling tired I could sprint.  (Not that it would do ANY good.)  I stayed right there with her (ok, I'll admit, she probably slowed WAY down before I knew it was her).  My watch had me at 4:53 pace (11.2 mph).  Cool.

Well, it was fun seeing a different sports endurace event, not the biggest endurance event for biking, but still a GOOD challenge.  I don't know that I could make it 100 miles on a bike without DIEING!

I figure I will be starting more serious running this next week.  I have to get going, got to get my mind in the game.  Time to build miles and endurance so I can have a good running season!  Having HUGE mind games right now!

Have a great day everyone!
